Chairman Carper Statement on NAPA Stock Act Report

WASHINGTON – Today, Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement on the National Academy of Public Administration’s (NAPA) report, “The STOCK Act: An Independent Review of the Impact of Providing Personally Identifiable Financial Information Online:”

“The STOCK Act is an important measure that helps ensure that Members of Congress and their staffs play by the same rules that all Americans must follow regarding financial investments,” said Chairman Carper. “That said, I am aware of a number of serious safety concerns that have been raised about some of the law’s provisions requiring the publication of personal and sensitive financial information on the Internet.  My staff and I are now reviewing the National Academy of Public Administration’s (NAPA) report, which examined those concerns.  NAPA is an independent agency charted by Congress and the expert panel that conducted this study is highly respected, and I intend to give the panel’s findings and recommendations very serious consideration and hope my colleagues do the same as we determine the appropriate next steps for STOCK Act implementation.”
