WASHINGTON—Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., and Ranking Member Susan Collins, R-Me., Wednesday welcomed senators Ted Kaufman, D-Del., and Scott Brown, R-Mass., to the Committee. Kaufman and Brown replaced former Senator Paul Kirk, D-Mass., and Senator Robert Bennett, R-Utah.
“Both senators are wonderful additions to HSGAC’s membership and I am pleased to have them on the committee,” Lieberman said. “Senator Kaufman has already been a great advocate for federal employees and I look forward to working with him on issues affecting that critical workforce. His in-depth knowledge of the Senate, as well as the issues facing our nation, will be a great benefit on the array of concerns that come before us.
“Senator Brown’s National Guard service will be a tremendous asset to our Committee as we confront the continuing threats to our homeland. HSGAC has a proud bipartisan tradition and Senator Collins and I are always happy to have another independent-minded senator, especially one from New England.”
Added Collins: “I welcome Senators Brown and Kaufman to our committee, which is known for its bipartisanship and its record of accomplishments and landmark legislation. Both Senators will bring fresh points of view from their diverse backgrounds and perspectives,” she said. “I know they will add much dimension to our committee’s discussions on critical issues vital to our government and to our nation’s security.”
Kaufman will be a member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations; Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce, and the District of Columbia (OGM); and the Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight (SCO). Brown has been named the Ranking Member of SCO and will be a member of OGM and the Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Disaster Recovery.
