| WASHINGTON – Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., Thursday issued the following statement in response to the Administration’s announcement that it will nominate Vivek Kundra to Federal Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the White House:
“The President’s creation of a Chief Information Officer position and his appointment of Vivek Kundra to fill that post bode well for federal management of information technology. I first called for a Chief Information Officer in 2001 when I introduced the E-Government Act. Now more than ever we need decisive, focused, top-level leadership to provide the vision, coordination, and innovation necessary to maximize the effectiveness of federal information technology. Given the enormous spending the federal government has just undertaken to stimulate the economy, the CIO must play a central role in managing the IT systems that will track the distribution of stimulus funds and help ensure proper program implementation. As Chief Technology Officer for the District of Columbia Mr. Kundra has demonstrated the leadership and innovation needed to meet his new responsibilities. I look forward to working with the Administration to ensure that the Chief Information Officer succeeds.” -30- |
