WASHINGTON — The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted Monday to send to the full Senate the nomination of Peter Neffenger to become the Assistant Secretary (Transportation Security Administration) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) voted for Neffenger. He made these remarks about his vote:
“I commend the president and DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson for nominating an individual of such quality as Vice Admiral Peter Neffenger. The position of administrator of the Transportation Security Administration brings with it an enormous challenge, and I believe Vice Admiral Neffenger is well qualified and well suited for the task. I greatly appreciate his past service to our country, most recently as the vice commandant of the United States Coast Guard, and his willingness to continue to serve in this new capacity. As chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, I will do whatever I can to help Vice Admiral Neffenger to succeed in his job of transforming the TSA and keeping our nation safe. I look forward to working with him to effectively address the many challenges facing the TSA.”
