WASHINGTON— Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) advanced eight bills Wednesday. The legislation reported will work toward enhancing economic and national security, specifically through the Federal Permitting Improvement Act of 2015, the Arizona Borderlands Protection and Preservation Act and the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System Modernization Act of 2015. It will also work toward improving the federal government’s efficiency and transparency, among other necessary incremental improvements, specifically through the Edward “Ted” Kaufman and Michael Leavitt Presidential Transitions Improvement Act of 2015 and the Taxpayers Right-to-Know Act.
The eight bills that were reported favorably to the full Senate were:
S. 280, the Federal Permitting Improvement Act of 2015, as amended
S. 1180, the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System Modernization Act of 2015, as amended
S. 750, the Arizona Borderlands Protection and Preservation Act, as amended
S. 282, the Taxpayers Right-To-Know Act, as amended
S. 1109, the Truth in Settlements Act of 2015
S. 1172, the Edward “Ted” Kaufman and Michael Leavitt Presidential Transitions Improvement Act of 2015, as amended
S. 434, the Security Clearance Accountability, Reform and Enhancement Act of 2015
H.R. 623, the Social Media Working Group Act of 2015, as amended
“I think we achieved some continuous improvement here,” Johnson said in his closing remarks. “What government we have needs to be efficient, effective and accountable, and I think today we reported out some bills that accomplish exactly that.”
