WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine, the Ranking Republican on the Homeland Security Committee, issued the following reaction to Justice Department announcement that it has uncovered a terrorist plot allegedly backed by factions of the Iranian government to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the U.S.
“The brazen nature of this plot – targeting an ambassador serving in the United States as well as potentially harming or killing American bystanders — is deeply disturbing.
“If these allegations are true, they provide an ominous warning about state sponsors of terrorism who seek alliances with criminal gangs and narco-terrorists. This thwarted plot shows that these nefarious actors can become instruments of terror for rogue states like Iran or al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.”
