WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement today regarding the U.S. State Department’s announcement of a travel alert for Europe:
"I received an hour-long briefing last Thursday from the Department of Homeland Security regarding the ongoing threat posed by al Qaeda and affiliated organizations," Senator Collins said Sunday from Maine. "I expect another update upon my return to Washington, D.C., tomorrow. The terrorist threat to this nation and our Allies in Europe remains a cause for concern. I encourage all Americans traveling outside the country to carefully follow any applicable State Department advisories, including the most recent advisory for Europe. Whether in the United States or overseas, all Americans should be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities."
