Senate Governmental Affairs Committee Approves Nomination for Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senate Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the Committee unanimously approved the nomination of Admiral David Stone to be Assistant Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Stone currently serves as acting administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), an agency that he would continue to oversee if confirmed by the Senate.

“Admiral Stone is the ideal candidate to head an agency with tens of thousands of employees and oversight of security at our nation’s airports, ports, and railways,” Senator Collins said. “I appreciate his commitment to public service.”

Prior to being named acting TSA administrator in December, Stone served as TSA’s deputy chief of staff, as security director at the Los Angeles International Airport, and as a Rear Admiral in the U.S. Navy.

The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee has jurisdiction over the Department of Homeland Security.
