Delegation Urges White House to Swiftly Approve Alaska Disaster Declaration
Begich, Murkowski and Young support Parnell request for spring flood assistance
Senators Mark Begich, Lisa Murkowski and Congressman Don Young sent letters to President Obama and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrator Craig Fugate this evening urging them to approve Governor Sean Parnell’s request for a presidential disaster declaration for Alaska communities affected by heavy spring floods.
The delegation noted that despite the best efforts of local and state resources, including the Alaska National Guard, greater federal assistance is still needed for recovery efforts. Recalling the comprehensive response of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) during past disasters in Alaska, the delegation requested similar responsiveness from FEMA for this incident.
