WASHINGTON, D.C – U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Rand Paul (R-KY), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, welcomed U.S. Senator Laphonza Butler (D-CA) as the newest member of the committee and announced the updated membership for the committee’s subcommittees in the 118th Congress. U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA), who has served on the committee since 2020, will depart the committee.

We have a strong tradition of working in a bipartisan manner to tackle some of the toughest issues facing our nation, and Senator Butler’s experience will help our committee continue that important work,” said Chairman Peters. “I’m also grateful to Senator Padilla for his years of service on our committee, working to strengthen disaster response, improve government effectiveness, and address pressing national security threats.”
