COVID-19 Investigations

COVID-19 Pandemic Supply Challenges

Chairman Gary C. Peters and Ranking Member Rob Portman are conducting a bipartisan review of the federal response to the Coronavirus pandemic. As part of their review, the Senators are investigating harm caused by exploiting and profiteering off of the shortage of critical medical supplies and drugs—such as personal protective equipment (PPE), testing supplies, and ventilators. Last year, reports of difficulty obtaining these products spread as demand grew across the country and around the world. Reports of counterfeit medical products and fraudulent contracting increased as well.

The Senators invite hospitals, health care facilities, state and local governments, first responders, public health organizations, and anyone who had difficulty obtaining authentic products, received counterfeit or unusable medical products, or interacted with fraudulent or exploitative vendors to report their experience to the Committee. This information may assist the Committee to expose fraudulent contracting and other practices that led to the spread of counterfeit medical supplies and interfered with the pandemic response.
