WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) released the following statement praising President Biden’s decision to reverse the Muslim travel ban put into place by former President Trump’s Administration:
“The Muslim travel ban that former President Trump’s Administration implemented was not only discriminatory and divisive, it did not meaningfully contribute to our national security. I’ve heard firsthand from Michigan’s Arab American and Muslim communities about how this ban has harmed families in our state for years. That’s why I am pleased that President Biden is taking the necessary steps to reverse this ban.
“As a leader of the Homeland Security Committee, my top priority is ensuring that our nation is safe from those intent on doing us harm. Our country is facing ever-evolving threats – from domestic terrorism to this ongoing pandemic – and I look forward to working with the Biden Administration to effectively safeguard our national security.”
