WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, the top Democrat on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) moved a planned public committee hearing to a classified briefing from Department of Homeland Security officials on President Trump’s controversial recent Executive Orders:
“I disagree with the decision to hold this briefing behind closed doors. The public has a right to understand how these orders were written, who was involved, and how they are being implemented—and the answers to these questions do not involve classified material.”
McCaskill’s staff will be prepared to provide information to the press related to the non-classified portions of the closed-door briefing after its conclusion.
