WASHINGTON- Today, Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, announced that Gabrielle Batkin has joined the committee as staff director, effective today. Batkin joins the committee after having worked in the Senate for nearly two decades.
“I am delighted to welcome Gabby to our committee staff,” said Chairman Carper. “Her years of service, experience, and leadership as a Congressional staffer have prepared her well to help manage the Committee. I have the highest confidence in Gabby’s ability hit the ground running in her new role, and I look forward to having her on our team as the Committee works to address many of the pivotal national security and governmental affairs issues facing our nation.”
Before joining Chairman Carper’s Committee staff, Batkin worked on the Senate Appropriations Committee since 2001, where she was most recently the Deputy Staff Director. She previously served as the clerk of the Appropriations Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS) Subcommittee and as a professional staff member on the former Appropriations Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development, and Independent Agencies. She also worked on the staff of the Senate Budget Committee, and for Senator Frank Lautenberg and Representative Frank Pallone, Jr. Batkin is an alumna of George Washington University, where she earned her M.A. in International Affairs, and Bradley University, where she earned her B.A. in International Studies. She lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband Josh and their three sons.
