WASHINGTON – Today, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement to congratulate and recognize the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employees awarded with Secretary’s service awards.
“Every day, more than 240,000 men and women at the Department of Homeland Security report to work to fulfill one critical mission: to ensure that our homeland is safe, secure, and resilient against terrorism and other threats so that the American way of life can thrive,” said Chairman Carper. “The work they do is incredibly important and, in some cases, can be very dangerous as well. From countering terrorism and securing our borders and airports, to responding to natural disasters and disrupting cyber intrusions, the Department’s public servants dedicate their lives to the well-being of their neighbors and our country. For that, we Americans owe them all immeasurable thanks. Today, Secretary Johnson recognized and awarded over three hundred outstanding employees based on references from their colleagues across the agency. These men and women are courageous, dedicated, and exemplary employees that embody the Department’s core mission and attest to the important work being done by thousands of individuals across the Department every day. I congratulate the recipients of these prestigious awards, and I thank each and every one of them for their tireless service to our country.”
