LIEBERMAN CALLS TSA ONLINE POSTING “EMBARRASSING MISTAKE”

WASHINGTON – Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., issued the following statement in response to the Transportation Security Administration’s posting of its Standard Operating Procedure Manual on the Internet:

“The release of a Standard Operating Procedures manual for TSA officers is an embarrassing mistake that calls into question the judgment of agency managers.  A security manual, redacted or not, is not the type of document we want to share with the world.  That it was incompetently redacted only compounds the error.

“TSA must swiftly complete its investigation into this incident, institute better controls over what it posts online, and strengthen its security procedures to make sure this incident has not compromised the nation’s aviation security.

“I would also add that the prompt confirmation of Earl Southers as TSA Administrator will go a long way toward providing the agency the leadership it needs to put this issue behind it and move forward.”
