WASHINGTON – Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., issued the following statement Friday after the arraignment of a soldier arrested near Fort Hood, Texas, who was in possession of explosives and violent Islamist extremist literature.
“The arrest near Fort Hood is the latest evidence that all Americans – including the men and women of our armed forces – face a growing threat of homegrown violent Islamist extremism, especially from lone wolves. An observant gun dealer took the threat seriously when he reported suspicious behavior, potentially saving scores of lives, and reinforcing the importance of the ‘see something, say something’ principle. This incident reminds us that alert citizens are critical to the nation’s commitment to avert terror.”
