WASHINGTON – Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., issued the following statement Sunday in reaction to the theft of a Transportation Security Administration hard drive containing personal information of current and past employees:
“The theft of a hard drive containing the personal information of 100,000 current and past TSA employees is only the latest in a string of information security setbacks. We have witnessed far too many incidents over the past few years in which federal employees or American citizens are subjected to potential identity theft because of the negligence of government agencies. In this case, TSA has compromised the information of airport security officers, Air Marshals, and other TSA law enforcement officers. I call on DHS to carefully review any potential consequences to the integrity and safety of our transportation systems. I will also make it a priority of my Committee this year to consider how we can improve federal privacy protections.”
