MEDIA ADVISORY: Senator Carper to Host Roundtable on Agency Successes in Reducing Waste, Fraud and Abuse Across Federal Government

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), top Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, will host a roundtable discussion on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. to highlight progress that agencies have made on addressing areas of high risk for waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement within their agencies as outlined in the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) annual High Risk List. The roundtable, titled “Progress is Possible: Tackling the Challenges on GAO’s High Risk List to Make Government Work Better,” will be held in SD-342 in the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

Senator Carper will be joined by officials from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Defense (DoD), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) who will discuss progress each of their agencies has made to their own programs to reduce vulnerabilities. The good work done by these agencies could provide a roadmap for others looking to improve performance and meet the criteria for removal from the High Risk List as well.
