U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI),Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, joined 27 colleagues to cosponsor the Dream Act as an amendment to the national security supplemental bill. The amendment would allow noncitizens without lawful status who were brought to the United States as children and meet certain education or work requirements earn lawful permanent residence, providing a pathway to U.S. citizenship.
“Dreamers enrich our communities in Michigan and beyond, serving in our Armed Forces, as educators and health care professionals, and growing small businesses,” said Senator Peters. “Their contributions make our nation stronger, more successful, and vibrant. It is past time to give these hardworking Dreamers the status and stability they deserve.”
