WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement on the selection of Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) to be the committee’s chairman:
“I congratulate my friend Senator Ron Johnson on his selection by his Republican colleagues to be Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Since 2011, he has played an important and influential role on our committee, including his last two years as ranking member of the Financial and Contracting Oversight subcommittee. In the 113th Congress, I worked closely with then-Ranking Member Coburn to address some critical issues facing our nation and federal agencies. While we didn’t agree on everything, we worked together and achieved real results – from protecting our critical infrastructure from cyber attacks to securing our nation’s chemical facilities, to reducing wasteful and fraudulent spending to getting better results from federal programs. I thank Dr. Coburn and his staff for their hard work and express my sincerest appreciation for his partnership on the committee. In the 114th Congress, I am confident that Chairman Johnson and I will build on those efforts and carry on our committee’s proud tradition of bipartisanship and cooperation. I am honored to continue to serve the Committee as Chairman Johnson’s Ranking Member and look forward to working with him and our committee’s new and returning members as we continue our work to protect and secure our homeland and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the federal government.”
