WASHINGTON – Today, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), ranking member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement following President Obama’s intent to nominate U.S. Coast Guard Vice Admiral Peter Neffenger to be Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):
“The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has the challenging but critical mission of protecting our nation’s aviation and other transportation systems, while ensuring freedom of movement for people and commerce. The President has asked U.S. Coast Guard Vice Admiral Peter Neffenger to take on a difficult and demanding job. But based on Vice Admiral Neffenger’s extensive leadership with the U.S. Coast Guard and expertise in crisis management and security issues, I believe he has the experience to meet the challenge. I look forward to learning more about his vision for TSA and his plans to build on former-Administrator Pistole’s efforts to modernize the agency’s policies, better facilitate air travel, and improve the effectiveness of this vital agency in securing all types of travel.”
