WASHINGTON — Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, had this to say about the addition of Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) as the latest co-sponsor of the Trickett Wendler Right to Try Act of 2016.
“I greatly appreciate Senator King’s support of this very important issue. With his co-sponsorship, the Trickett Wendler Right To Try Act now has a coalition of 44 Republican, Democrat and independent senators fighting to give terminally ill patients the right to hope. To my fellow senators, I ask you to consider joining our now ‘tripartisan’ effort in support of the principle that terminal patients deserve the right to try to save their own lives.”
In May 2016, Johnson introduced this legislation aimed at allowing terminally ill patients, their doctors, and pharmaceutical manufacturers to administer investigational medical treatments where no alternative exists. The bill is named after a woman from Waukesha, Wisconsin, who lost her battle with ALS in 2015.
Johnson recently sent a “Dear Colleague” letter urging other senators to support this legislation.
