WASHINGTON – Today, Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Ranking Member Tom Carper (D-Del.), a former Naval Flight Officer and retired U.S. Navy Captain, issued the following statement on yesterday’s tragic shooting at a U.S. Army recruiting center and Navy and Marine Corps reserve center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
“Our nation lost four brave Marines yesterday in a horrific act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their friends and families, first responders and law enforcement officials, the people of Chattanooga, and all those who have been deeply affected by this tragedy. We are carefully monitoring this situation and will continue to do so as local, state, and federal officials gather intelligence and conduct a thorough terrorism investigation into this attack. At the same time, it is critical that we remain vigilant and take steps to ensure our federal and military facilities are safe, as many agencies are doing. We must learn from the investigation to understand what we need to do to prevent such tragic events like this from happening again.”
