COMMITTEE APPROVES OMB DEPUTY DIRECTOR

WASHINGTON—The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, led by Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., Wednesday approved the nomination of Heather Higginbottom to be Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget.  Her nomination was agreed to by a 6-4 vote and now moves to the full Senate for confirmation.

“Heather Higginbottom is a very capable person who, if confirmed, will assume one of the nation’s most challenging jobs at this moment in our governance and economic history,” Lieberman said.  “I believe she is well qualified for the position. Ms. Higginbottom will be called upon to work closely with the Director and a politically-divided Congress to tackle the debt, existing spending commitments, and an impending showdown over the debt ceiling.  Ms. Higginbottom has demonstrated her talent in both the executive and legislative branches, and I look forward to working with her.”

The Committee also approved by unanimous voice vote the nomination of Carolyn Lerner to be Special Counsel in the Office of Special Counsel.
