Johnson Comments on DHS Funding Vote

WASHINGTON — Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) made these remarks after the Senate voted to pass a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security:

“As chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, I am committed to keeping America safe and secure.  That is why I voted for the bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security.

“It is also why I am deeply troubled by the political games the president and Senate Democrats played for weeks by blocking the funding from being debated, amended or voted on.  The issuance of the administration’s executive action has been ruled unlawful by a federal court.  The president should acknowledge that legal reality, uphold his oath of office, and support a bill that, like the House version, funds only the lawful activities of DHS.

“Washington is broken, and that is demonstrated yet again by this impasse.  Americans are frustrated by this dysfunction, and so am I.”
