WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and U.S. Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.), chairman of the Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management, had this to say following an announcement from the Trump administration Thursday that it would reorganize the federal government.
“The vast majority of people I ask believe the federal government is badly broken,” said Johnson. “That is why I am so pleased to see this administration thinking big and ‘outside the box’ to bring effective reform and reorganization to a government structure developed for the previous century. I pledge to do everything I can to support this effort to make the government more efficient and effective for the 21st century.”
“Today’s signing of the executive order to reorganize federal agencies is a good first step for a long overdue problem,” said Lankford. “The US government provides 20th century services to a 21st century public. We need to debate commonsense ideas to streamline services, consolidate programs, and to make agencies more efficient to assist the American people. I’m grateful that the Trump administration is willing to explore big solutions and start a conversation about tough problems that face our system of government. Congress should welcome this debate on a wide-range of issues to address the logical changes that need to happen to every agency.”
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee has jurisdiction over government-wide reorganization under Senate Rule XXV(k).
