WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, met Tuesday afternoon with President Donald Trump’s nominee to be Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen. Sen. Johnson and Ms. Nielsen discussed the challenges facing the department and her plans to address cybersecurity, the federal response to the recent hurricanes, border security, and counterterrorism efforts.
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee has legislative jurisdiction over the Department of Homeland Security, including nominations subject to Senate confirmation.
