WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded $448,100 in grant funding to the Scarborough Fire Department. The funding is allocated through the SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) Grant Program.
That program provides grants to departments across the United States in order to help attain and maintain 24-hour staffing to assure that local communities have adequate fire protection and emergency response operations.
“The SAFER Grant Program remains a critical source of funding for Maine’s fire departments,” said Senator Collins. “This grant will help ensure that our first responders in Scarborough have the personnel and staff they need to better serve their community around the clock.”
