SENATOR COLLINS’ COMMENTS ON INTELLIGENCE MESSAGE ISSUED FOR RAIL SECTOR

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Department of Homeland Security today announced it has issued an intelligence message to federal, state, local, and tribal partners about potential terrorist plots directed at the U.S. rail sector. The Transportation Security Administration will issue a bulletin to rail sector stakeholders. DHS says it has no information of any imminent terrorist threat but wishes to encourage the public to remain on guard.

U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, which has oversight of the Department of Homeland Security, released the following comment.

"Earlier this week, I urged the Secretary of Homeland Security to increase the threat level, at least for the next two weeks, while an intelligence assessment is conducted of the data seized from Osama bin Laden’s compound and as a precautionary measure given the possibility of a retaliatory attack. I continue to question the Secretary’s decision not to increase the threat level."
