WASHINGTON – Today Senator Susan Collins, Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, issued a statement on the President’s nomination of Gene Dodaro to be the Comptroller General of the Government Accountability Office (GAO). The Committee has jurisdiction over the Comptroller General nomination and will vet the nomination before it is considered by the full Senate.
“The Comptroller General is Congress’ fiscal watchdog, heading up the GAO and helping Congress pursue its critical oversight duties,” said Senator Collins. “Mr. Dodaro has served in various capacities at the GAO in a career that spans more than 30 years and he has been acting Comptroller General since 2008.
“I look forward to Mr. Dodaro laying out his vision for the GAO as the Committee considers his nomination. The next Comptroller General should ensure that the GAO performs its duties with only one interest at heart – that of America’s taxpayers."
