U.S. Senator Susan Collins today released the following statement on the passing of Beverly Eckert, a member of the 9/11 Family Steering Committee for the 9/11 Commission. Eckert was a victim of last night’s crash of Continental Flight 3407 outside of Buffalo, New York.
Eckert’s husband, Sean Rooney, was killed in the world trade center during the September 11th attacks.
She worked closely with Senator Collins and the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs in the wake of the attacks.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of Beverly Eckert,” said Senator Collins. “Beverly was a true leader and an invaluable resource during the Committee’s work to reform our nation’s flawed intelligence system and improve the nation’s ability to prevent future terrorist attacks. She was committed to commemorating the lives of those who died on September 11th, including her husband, Sean. Beverly’s family has suffered so much loss and my thoughts and prayers are with them at this truly tragic time.”
