SENATOR COLLINS’ STATEMENT ON TSA’S RISK-BASED SCREENING

Washington, DC – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today rolled out a pilot program to implement risk-based, intelligence-driven security measures. TSA, working with Customs and Border Patrol and the airlines, will test enhancements to pre-flight screening and that could lead to expedited screening for trusted travelers.

Senator Susan Collins, who is the Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement:

"There are serious challenges and gaps in our security. If we continue to give extra screening to individuals who pose no threat, while others who should arouse suspicion bypass check points without being questioned, our systems are clearly not working properly. I hope this effort will provide for more efficient use of the government’s limited screening resources, improve the security of travelers, and permit less intrusive and speedier screening procedures for the general public."
