WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., Ranking Member Susan Collins, R-Me., and senior Committee member Tom Carper, D-Del., Tuesday welcomed Senator Chris Coons, D-Del., to the Committee.
Senator Coons was elected November 2 to replace Senator Ted Kaufman, who was appointed to finish out the unexpired term of Vice President Biden.
“Senator Coons is a great friend and our Committee is lucky to have him,” Senator Lieberman said. “I look forward to working with him to help solve the nation’s homeland security challenges.”
Senator Collins welcomed Senator Coons to the Committee, saying, “Our Committee has a solid reputation of bipartisan cooperation which has resulted in a long record of accomplishments. I look forward to working closely with Senator Coons as we continue to build upon our achievements."
Added Senator Carper: “I couldn’t be happier that Delaware’s newest senator, and one of my newest colleagues, Senator Chris Coons, will be joining me on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. As the former County Executive of New Castle County, Chris oversaw the operations and management of the largest county in Delaware. I know his extensive experience working on a wide range of government issues, from government performance to the public safety of our citizens, will be a valuable asset to the Committee. Chris has large shoes to fill in the vacancy left by my friend and former colleague Senator Ted Kaufman, but I am confident Chris will be an active and effective member of our Committee.”
Senator Coons will be a member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations; the Subcommittee on Oversight on Government Management, the Federal Workforce, and the District of Columbia (OGM); and the Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight (SCO).
