A More Efficient and Effective Government: The National Technical Information Service

Date: July 23, 2014
Time: 2:30pm
Location: SD-342, Dirksen Senate Office Building
Agenda:

The purpose of the hearing was to examine the National Technical Information Service’s (NTIS) statutory mission to maintain a clearinghouse of government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business-related information.  The hearing focused on the need to maintain the clearinghouse and its current and future financial viability.  The hearing also explored other services that NTIS provides.  The hearing also provided an opportunity to review S. 2206, the Let Me Google That for You Act, which would eliminate NTIS and allow the Secretary of Commerce to transfer to another office within the Department of Commerce any NTIS functions deemed critical to the economy of the United States.
